Martin Karp

Dr. Martin Stewart Karp has built a career rooted in the belief that meaningful change in education happens when you actively participate. With more than 30 years of experience in teaching, school leadership, and policy development, he has consistently worked to improve learning environments and student opportunities. Holding a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership, along with master’s and bachelor’s degrees from the University of Miami, and a master’s degree from Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Public Communications, his academic path reflects a deep dedication to both leadership and learning.

Over the years, Martin has served as a teacher, principal, school board member, and now Chief of Staff for a network of independent schools. His approach emphasizes the role of education in changing lives, shaping initiatives that support student well-being, address special needs, and expand access to gifted programs. In addition to his educational work, he has experience in media and publishing, having served as Business Manager for Southern Playbill Publishing and Circulation Director for Miami Beach Magazine, which broadened his understanding of communication and outreach.

From the start of his teaching career, he demonstrated an ability to design innovative educational programs. At Biscayne Elementary, he launched a gifted program that served students from both public and private schools, bridging traditional divisions in education. His time as an exceptional student education specialist and department chairperson led to creating student fairs to highlight special education programs. In partnership with Lehrman Community Day School, he developed one of the district’s first public-private gifted education models, offering enriched learning experiences to a diverse student population.

Martin Karp also extended his educational impact into broadcasting. He produced WKDZ Kids’ World, a weekly television show highlighting student achievements and classroom projects, aired on Cable TAP and WLRN-TV. As a Miami-Dade County School Board member for four consecutive terms from 2004 to 2020, he pushed forward initiatives such as healthier school environments, later high school start times, vaping prevention education, expanded resources for students with disabilities, and strengthened science and gifted education programs. His tenure was marked by practical policies that addressed pressing student needs.

In his current role, he oversees daily operations, contract management, and strategy for a consortium affiliated with Talmudic University, guiding divisions from elementary through post-secondary levels. At Yeshiva Elementary School, he established the Success Center, a program for students who benefit from nontraditional learning approaches. Combining core academic skills with STEM projects and enrichment opportunities, the center creates personalized educational experiences. He has also implemented new assessments and individualized learning plans, ensuring each student receives the attention and resources necessary to thrive.
